When: 23 Feb 2027 - 2 Mar 2027 Dates: This workshop will be held over two days, on Tuesday 23rd February and Tuesday 2nd March from 9.30am-1pm GMT in addition to an online module. This workshop is being offered to share Good Practice in Safeguarding and to raise awareness of our legal responsibilities to ensure that in offering mindfulness-based courses we’re attending comprehensively to the safety of the people we are working with. The good practice requirements in mindfulness-based teaching set out the need for conducting an orientation and assessment process with potential participants in order to consider whether making the journey through an 8-week course will be a safe and wise choice for each person. Some of the people taking part in a mindfulness course – and those associated with them – may be vulnerable in other ways, however, including by being at risk of experiencing harm, abuse and neglect. This workshop will raise awareness of our role in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children and young people that we, and those we are supervising, are in connection with. We will also be learning about our legal responsibilities and Duty of Care, as well as the requirement to adhere to Safeguarding Policies and Procedures. Learning Intentions: Format: This Safeguarding training is rolled out in two phases - the first is through e-learning completed independently and the second is delivered on-line in two workshops via Zoom in a group. The first phase of the training is a generic online Safeguarding module which provides basic knowledge and information about the duty of care that we all have to those we have contact with through our work or volunteering in mindfulness. The module has been developed by Social Care Wales and although the module references the legislation in Wales, the content of the module fits with the legal framework that underpins good practice in Safeguarding across all the nations of the UK. This training is referred to as ‘Group A’ training and completing the e-learning module is a requirement before attending the online Group B training on Zoom. The module takes between 30–60 minutes to complete and there is a certificate to download at the end which you will need to share with us before attending the workshops. The e-learning module is followed by 6 hours of training delivered in two workshops on Zoom which is tailored specifically to mindfulness-based contexts - this is referred to as ‘Group B’ training. The Group B training gives time for a more comprehensive exploration of safeguarding in different settings e.g. teaching 8 week courses, offering supervision, training and retreats and it will cover the additional safeguarding responsibilities for people in these roles. Trustees of mindfulness-based organisations will find this training relevant. There will be small group work where you'll have the opportunity to explore case studies and scenarios that link to your specific role. Good practice in safeguarding requires attendance at training every 3 years and this course has been designed with this in mind. The workshops will take place online using Zoom and attendance is required on both days in addition to completing the e-learning module before attending the first workshop. Who is the training for: The workshop is suitable for mindfulness teachers, trainees, supervisors and those who are Trustees of organisations or groups delivering mindfulness-based courses.
