Retreat: Drinking deeply from the well of mindfulness together: an online retreat for mindfulness-based supervisors

When: 18 Oct 2021 - 22 Oct 2021
Where: Online Event
Tutors: Alison Evans, Julia Wallond

Who is the Retreat for?

This online practice retreat is suitable for mindfulness-based supervisors who:

  • have a long-standing mindfulness practice
  • have taught MBIs for a number of years
  • have completed a two to three day mindfulness-based supervision training, or equivalent.

The retreat is open to anyone who meets these requirements and is particularly intended for those who are integrating mindfulness-based supervision into their professional work. We welcome applications from outside of the UK.

What’s involved?

This five day online retreat offers a unique opportunity to deepen your personal mindfulness practice alongside other experienced supervisors and explore mindfulness-based supervision within a retreat context.

A core intention is to offer a supportive structure and atmosphere within which each of us can explore our own experience with the freshness of beginner’s mind, through formal practices (sitting, walking, movement, including an emphasis on compassion-based practices), and informal practice time.

The retreat will also offer some interpersonal mindfulness practice, encouraging us to bring mindful awareness to our experience of interacting with another, as we contemplate themes around mindfulness-based supervision. This will be complemented by a small number of talks from the teachers inviting further exploration of the themes of the retreat. By bringing inquiry into our experience of mindfulness based supervision into a retreat context we hope to create a space which allows a deepening of insight both about supervision and being a supervisor.

We will lightly hold a mindfulness-based supervision framework as a structure for the residential, but the core curriculum will be the immediacy of personal experience.

The retreat will include:

  • periods of both guided and self-directed practice, with the emphasis on self-guided
  • times of mutual inquiry about supervision held within a container of relational practice
  • short talks
  • sustained periods of silence to enable participants to connect more fully with their inner experience
  • time to practice mindfulness informally between the scheduled sessions.

The overall container of the retreat will be one of noble silence: a chance to be in community with like-minded people without the need to be anyone in particular.

We acknowledge that the container for an on-line retreat may need to be a little different from in a residential setting, and there may be times of non-silence where you need to be in communication with those you live with. Further information will be given on creating as contained an environment as you can within your own home or another place where you can primarily be undisturbed in your practice and dialogue.

There will be opportunities for sharing and connecting at the end of our time together.
