Course Information

Workshop: Safeguarding

When: 9 Aug 2021 - 10 Aug 2021
Where: Online Event
Tutor: Sarah Millband

Dates: This workshop will be held over two days, on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th August from 9.30am-1pm BST.

This workshop is being offered to share Good Practice in Safeguarding and to raise awareness of our legal responsibilities to ensure that in offering mindfulness-based courses, retreats and supervision we’re attending comprehensively to the safety of the people we are working with. The good practice requirements in mindfulness-based teaching set out the need for conducting an orientation and assessment process with potential participants, in order to consider whether making the journey through an 8 week course or a retreat will be a safe and wise choice for each person. Some of the people taking part in a mindfulness-based courses/retreats – and those associated with them – may be vulnerable in other ways, however, including by being at risk of experiencing abuse, harm and neglect.

This workshop will raise awareness of our role in safeguarding the adults and children and young people that we, and those we are supervising, are in connection with. We will also be learning about our legal responsibilities and Duty of Care, as well as the requirement for all practitioners to adhere to Safeguarding Policies and Procedures. Learning Intentions:

· Raising awareness of our role in safeguarding both adults and children and young people from abuse, harm and neglect

· Understanding the legislation that protects individuals from abuse, harm and neglect

· Understanding the responsibilities of all practitioners to adhere to Safeguarding Policy and Procedures

· Recognising different forms of abuse, harm and neglect

· Recognising the importance of raising awareness of safeguarding issues within mindfulness-based teaching, supervision and retreat settings

The workshop will take place online using Zoom software and attendance is required on both days.
