Retreat: Exploring mindful movement and its relation to sitting practice
When: 26 Jul 2026 About the retreat: In this retreat we will explore the relationship between movement practice and stillness. The need to include the body in mental health and well-being is becoming increasingly evident, both in working with traumatic processes and in third-generation therapies in psychology. It has been shown that excluding the body from therapeutic interventions leaves out a fundamental part of the person. The Buddha suggested that body awareness is the first foundation of Mindfulness, so the practice could not be developed without including the body. Observing the body offers us multiple opportunities to increase mindfulness: the breath, the senses, internal sensations as well as movement. Furthermore, we can only experience the body in the present, making it an excellent tool for letting go of mental narratives and greatly helping us integrate our practice into daily life. “Consciousness is a phenomenon that occurs throughout the body.” Antonio Damasio Body awareness allows us to modify our relationship with the body by learning to listen to its messages and benefiting from its great wisdom, caring for it instead of constantly making demands on it, accepting it and appreciating all the opportunities it offers us instead of judging it, and healing wounds that have been buried deep within it. Who is the Retreat for?: Anyone who has an established mindfulness practice is welcome. This day could be part of the retreat requirement as part of the BAMBA Good Practice Guidelines for Mindfulness Teachers. Participants must commit to the entire day.
