Specialist Training: Mindfulness in a Workplace Context

When: 21 Sep 2023 - 26 Oct 2023
Where: Online Event
Tutors: Michael Chaskalson, Jem Shackleford

Offering mindfulness in the workplace has the potential to increase resilience, the capacity for collaboration, and to enhance people’s ability to stay agile and focused in the midst of complexity.

The multitude of different organizational structures, ranging from small charities and start-ups to global corporations and conglomerates means that one style of delivery does not fit all. This six-week specialist training supports those interested in bringing mindfulness into workplaces through the process of developing skills and experience and creating and delivering a plan for implementation. This training will be of greatest benefit to those who already have a clear route to workplace delivery – either because they are already situated in a workplace context and understand how such an offering might be placed, or because they are freelancers with a clear route to market.

Who is it for?

Those interested in bringing a mindfulness-based approach to workplace contexts by way of mindful leadership, mindful management training, team mindfulness training, mindful coaching or wider mindfulness for resilience and wellbeing workplace offerings.

Those who have previously trained to teach a mindfulness-based program curriculum that want to learn how to deliver it within the workplace (and have clear routes to implementing their offerings).

Organisations wanting to implement a holistic and integrated mindfulness-based approach.

Learning Aims:

  • Learn ways to deliver mindfulness in workplace settings.
  • Understand workplace specific considerations, including implications for guiding practice, holding the learning container, and leading inquiry.
  • Explore sustainable ways to implement an organisation wide mindfulness-based approach.
  • Explore ways to grow mindfulness sustainably within an organisation.

Pre-requisites for attending:

  • Participants need to have been meditating regularly for at least six months using practices that are compatible with mindfulness-based approaches.
  • Participation in an eight-week mindfulness-based program would be of benefit and is a requirement for anyone teaching a mindfulness-based curriculum.
  • The Essentials and/or a Teacher Training Retreat Level 1 or an equivalent programme with another organisation (contact us if you are not sure about equivalency).

Nb. This training is not curriculum based. If you want to teach Mindfulness-based Program curricula as part of this approach, you will also need to complete the relevant Curriculum Specialist (such as MBSR, MBCT).

Participants must commit to the entire online training. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, we are unable to negotiate late arrivals or early leaving.  If this is not possible, please contact us to discuss before submitting an application.

Please note this training involves a commitment to interim between session home practice and peer group work.

Other information:

Please see the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA) for good practice guidelines and other information for mindfulness-based teachers.

Certificate of Attendance. Please note that we give a Bangor University Certificate of Attendance that details the nature of the course and the hours involved. However, this does not constitute an authorisation to teach mindfulness-based approaches. The development and interest in the potential of mindfulness within a range of settings is rapidly growing and training processes are therefore becoming more structured. Within the UK, though, there are currently no formal qualifications/certification processes which regulate competency in teaching mindfulness-based approaches. This requires those of us working in this developing field to inquire deeply into our own practice, our integrity and our intentions, as well as the boundaries of our skills, competencies and understandings.
